Director Ngo Trung Hai honored as one of outstanding Vietnamese intellectuals on the economic front 2013

Mr. Ngo Trung Hai – The director of Vietnam Institute of Urban and Rural Planning (VIUP) is one of 221 outstanding intellectuals.

In past years, under the leadership of VIUP’s communist party and board of leaders led by Mr. Ngo Trung Hai, Vietnam Institute of Urban and Rural Planning (VIUP) has made firm steps, gained important achievements, contributed to construction and development of the nation, as well as affirmed its role as a the leading institute in planning field in Vietnam. The institute makes construction planning for regions, important cities in the whole country, serving state management in regional and urban development. The institute also contributes actively to researching, proposing and participating in compiling legal documents on construction planning, technical infrastructure of construction industry. Under the guidance of the director, the institute continues renovation of making planning tasks, issuing detailed guidelines to every kind of planning. Many projects done by VIUP gained high awards in national and international competitions. In 2013, project “Ha Long Library and Museum Complex was chosen as “The building of the year”. Earlier, this project also won the 1st prize in international contest on design concept. The Institute with the project “Luc Thuy park” also won the ideas competition HISTORICAL HANOI 2013 for the urban redevelopment of the old district of Hoan Kiem in Hanoi. On the occasion of 55th anniversary of the Institute’s foundation, it was awarded the 1st grade labour medal for its outstanding achievements.

Being an experienced planner, Mr. Ngo Trung Hai has involved as the head of projects such as: Adjustment of Hanoi capital regional planning and many construction master planning and detailed planning projects. In addition, he also is the leader as well as participates in research projects, domestic and international conferences, interviews and is a familiar face on VTV1, VTV2, VTV3 channels on the hot issues in the society concerning to planning and urban management such as social housing, urban traffic, climate change… Beside this, with a role of the editor-in chief of Construction planning Journal, he helps the readers to approach easily the issues on planning and urban management to understand and make actions for a sustainable city. The director creates seminars on architecture. This is an useful and interesting activity for specialists, researchers, architects to discuss current situations and solution to planning and architecture in Vietnam. This program is presented on TV and is highly appreciated by leaders of MOC and leading architects.

For his achievements, Director Ngo Trung Hai was awarded the “3rd - grade labour medal” in 2011 by the state president. In addition, he was also given many certificates of merit of party organs, government and other organizations.

More than 220 outstanding intellectuals recorded outstanding achievements in labour movements, application of research results, scientific technological progress and management methods to help local authorities and residents accomplish socio-economic targets.

They were selected from 500 candidates in a program, which was launched in December, 2013, to vote for outstanding Vietnamese intellectuals.

The program is considered as practical activity to identify, commend and reward Vietnamese intellectuals, with outstanding achievements in all areas of the socio-economic fields.
